Collection: AQUARIUM HEATERS

A heater keeps tropical aquarium water at a steady temperature, which matters most in cooler weather. Choose a heater by your tank size and look for a thermostat you can set. Ask us if you are not sure what to buy.

Which heater do you need?

  • Large tanks, about 100 to 985 litres: Hygger Y0003 Digital Aquarium Heater, with smart LED temperature control, for freshwater and saltwater tanks (listed for 27 to 260 gallons).
  • Smaller tanks: HANA 100W Submersible Aquarium Immersion Heater. Check the product page for the tank size it is rated for.

How to choose a heater

  • Wattage: a common guide is about 1 watt per litre of water. Use less in a warm room and more in a cold one, and follow the tank size on the heater’s pack.
  • Temperature: most tropical freshwater fish are kept at about 24 to 28 °C. Check the range for your species.
  • Large tanks: two smaller heaters can spread heat more evenly and give you a backup if one stops.
  • Cold-water fish: goldfish and koi are cold-water fish and usually don’t need a heater.

Using a heater safely

Fit the heater fully submerged, away from plants and decorations, and keep it where water flows. Switch it off and let it cool before you take it out of the water. Never run it in an empty tank. Use a separate thermometer to check the temperature.

Aquarium heater questions

Do I need a heater in India? It depends on your room temperature and your fish. Tropical fish usually do better with a steady 24 to 28 °C, so a heater helps in cooler weather and in air-conditioned rooms.

How big a heater for a 60 cm tank? Use the watt guide above and the tank size shown on the heater’s pack.

Can I use a heater in a shrimp or planted tank? Yes, if the heater is rated for your tank size. Check the product page.

Need a different size? Send us your tank size and fish and we will suggest a heater.
